The School of Sciences at IGNOU, along with the South Asia Foundation Learning Initiative (SAFLI) and other Open Universities in the SAARC region (Open University of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh Open University, Allama Iqbal Open University in Pakistan, B.R. Ambedkar Open University in Hyderabad, and BRAC University in Bangladesh), made the Post Graduate Diploma in Environment and Sustainable Development. The program's goals are to spread information and share knowledge and experiences so that the goal of sustainable development can be reached. It also aims to strengthen regional cooperation in environmental capacity building, especially in the area of environmental management, and to educate and train people from different backgrounds, such as development workers, government officials, journalists, policymakers, farmers, industrialists, grassroots workers, and environmentalists, who have a stake in protecting the environment and making sure people in their countries have a better quality of life.
